ICS-700 – MRC Volunteer Training
MRC is a strong program in part due to the extensive training our volunteers complete. If you are considering becoming an MRC volunteer and would like to know more about what to expect from training, the below is for you! This is the second post in a series that will review each MRC Training course – Read the first post in the series here.
The second training course that MRC Volunteers take is called “ICS-700: NIMS – An Introduction.”
Like the first course, ICS-700 is three hours long and can be completed in-person or online. The course may count toward 0.3 CEU’s for medical professionals.
The course is an introduction to the National Incident Management System, or NIMS. NIMS was developed to protect against, prevent, respond to, and recover from the effects of all-hazards incidents. NIMS seeks to respond while reducing the loss of life and property and harm to the environment. NIMS is used by agencies at the local, state and federal level, and is meant to be a broad organizational framework. The Incident Command System, which MRC Volunteers learn about in their first training course, is just one tool in the NIMS organizational framework.
ICS-700 was developed by FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute. Upon completing the course, MRC Volunteers will learn about the concepts, principles and components of NIMS. Volunteers will also learn about the National Integration Center.
You can take the course online at your convenience by visiting this link. If you would rather take the course in person, please contact the MRC Coordinator. In person classes are scheduled as interest demands (minimum 5 persons).
